Introducing the Enigmatic Manul Cats and Their Captivating Facial Expressions

The Manul cat, otherwise known as Pallas’ cat, is a species of wild cat found in Central Asia that is at risk of becoming endangered. These cats can be easily identified due to their unique characteristics such as round pupils, short legs, and a flat face with wide-set ears that give them amusing expressions. Scientifically known as Otocolobus, which translates to “ugly-eared,” perhaps explaining why they always appear annoyed. Despite their fluffy appearance, these felines are similar in size and weight to domestic cats. They inhabit high altitudes of up to 15,000ft and thrive in colder climates. Their short and stubby legs make them poor runners, so they prefer hiding in crevices under boulders when they need to escape. Although these pictures may make them seem like cute pets with expressive faces, their solitary and wild nature, as well as their high mortality rate at lower altitudes, limits their presence primarily to professional zoos.
